Tawang, May 10: The mortal remains of former Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu was cremated at Shebdung (Phamla) near his native village Gyangkhar in Tawang district this morning ten days after his tragic death in a chopper crash.
Khandu’s funeral was performed as per Monpa traditions and with state honour which included funeral march by various contingents of state police besides firing several rounds into the air as a mark of last respect to the departed soul.
Almost entire Tawang accompanied the body from his residence to the cremation ground to pay their last respect to their beloved ‘Laughing Buddha’.
The somber sky was filled with smoke from Tsang and chants of the monks as Tawang bid final good bye to its beloved son.
Chief Minister Jarbom Gamlin and his cabinet colleagues, Speaker Wanglin Lowangdong, AICC leaders Dhaniram Shandil and Sanjoy Bapna including legislators and other senior government, police and Army officials were among those present.
“It is the saddest day of our state and the nation as we gather here today to pay our respectful adieu to our beloved leader, Chief Minister”.
“We are still traumatised with thought of our Laughing Buddha has left us. It is very hard to believe that the man of his stature who had been widely loved by the people in the state as well as the entire nation is no more amongst us today”, said Jarbom Gamlin with choked voice and soaked eyes while reading out a brief citation on the life and achievements of late Khandu.
It was indeed unjust for the Almighty God to snatch the most loving son of the soil, who we believe was an ocean of compassion, pure, virtuous, a visionary and a pioneer of the Modern Arunachal Pradesh, Gamlin said adding. “In his death, the country has lost an eminent leader, an able administrator and a compassionate human being, who was committed to all round development. We are aware that the vacuum that has been created by his death will never be filled”, he said while promising to live up to the peoples aspiration by following the footprints of Late Khandu and carry forward the dream and vision he had framed for Arunachal Pradesh.

DELHI, May 10: After the fatal crashes of Pawan Hans choppers in Tawang which claimed the lives of 22 people including that of the Late Dorjee Khandu, and subsequent suspension of chopper services in the state, the centre has decided that Alliance Air will be asked to arrange Daily flights to Lilabari to connect Arunachal with the rest of the state.
A meeting was convened by the Civil Aviation Minister today after the Doner Minister B K Handique shot off an angry letter to the centre demanding better and safe air connectivity in Arunachal.
In the meeting, which was chaired by Handique, it was decided Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) will conduct detailed inspection of all critical airports/airfields and helipads within 4 weeks. DGCA will also complete Security Audit of all helicopters/aircrafts of all operators and prepare detailed Action Plan within 4 weeks.
Ministry of Civil Aviation would also undertake a Detailed Study for Complimentary Routes between Fixed Wing and Copter Operations within 15 days. Among those who attended the meeting were representatives of Ministry of Civil Aviation, Directorate General of Civil Aviation, Airport Authority of Indian, official of Arunachal Pradesh government and other concerned agencies.

ANSU unhappy at police highhandedness
ITANAGAR, May 10: All Nyishi Students Union has expressed displeasure over high handedness shown by capital complex police in the last few days. Police had set up various check posts and have been carrying out search operation of vehicles leading to seizure of traditional dao’s. In a release ANSU General Secretary Arjun Panye said ordinary citizen are being harassed because of police action.
“Carrying dao is part of our tribal tradition. If Sikh can carry their traditional sword anywhere in world, then why is capital police seizing traditional dao without any reason,” questioned Arjun Panye. He further added, “Many villagers living around capital complex carries their dao while going to farm land. Police are harassing those innocent villagers by taking away their dao. We urge capital complex administration to end this harassment at the earliest.”
ITANAGAR, May 10: All Nyishi Students Union (ANSU) has lodged an FIR with Arunachal Pradesh Director General of Police demanding arrest of one Pradeep Thakur for ‘making communally flaring up statement with the intention of dividing the state on communal line’.
The derogatory remarks of Thakur which appeared in web portal of Times of India on May 4 that ‘Nyishi tribe does not enjoy good rapport amongst other tribes’ has tarnished the image and reputation of the Nyishi tribe and the sentiment of the community has been irreparably hurt by otherwise avoidable and hurting comment, the ANSU said in its FIR. Thakur in his report is trying to divide the people of the state on communal lines thereby inciting communal disharmony, the FIR further said and requested the DGP to look into the matter and deliver justice immediately.
Meanwhile, Nyishi Nyem Ancham (NNA) has expressed serious concern over the news report appeared in the web portal of Times of India on May 4.
In a letter written to the Chief Editor of Times of India, the NNA urged him to come clean with true and correct source of information regarding the news. It further said that the writer of the news item Pradeep Thakur should be directed to seek public apology for his ‘blatant blunder’ within five days, if he (Thakur) actually works for ToI.
The provocative statement which portrayed a negative image of Nyishi community is highly condemnable and unfortunate, the NNA said. It further said that article shows utter carelessness, irresponsibility and inefficiency on the part of Thakur.
Rajiv Gandhi University Students’ Union (RGUSU) also condemned the irresponsible statement of Pradeep Thakur and also Times of India for coming out with such controversial article. RGU general secretary Taba Billow requested Thakur to apologize for his mistake.

The team gathered at Tilling Lemba at Hong village and trekked to Pange via Moko on the first day. They trekked to Talle Valley on the next day amidst virgin forests and colorful wild flowers. The special features the team observed in the enchanting valley included the Niiri Piisa (Tsuga Pine), Palyu a beautiful bird seen only in the valley and Senji appu (rhododendron). ITANAGAR, May 10: All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) today evening organized candle lit prayer at Akashdeep market in memory of departed former CM late Dorjee Khandu. AAPSU team led by President Takam Tatung observed one minute silence and bid tearful adieu to late CM. Large number of people including students and ordinary citizens turned up to pay homage to late CM and four others who died in a tragic accident at Tawang on 30th April.
Meanwhile AAPSU has called on state government to engage CBI to prove into the chopper accident. “It’s well known that prominent Nagaland based UG group had issued threat against government of late Dorjee Khandu and had urged MLA’s of Tirap and Changlang to withdraw support by April 30th. Ironically on that same day late CM met with Chopper crash. Government has to call on CBI for free and fair investigation,” said Tatung.
Further he added, “We want to know what happened to black box of that ill fated chopper. The emergency locater system of chopper did not function on that fateful day. These concern need to be addressed.”
AAPSU also urge government to prove how did ISRO and Sukhoi despite claiming to have all advanced technology were not able to trace the chopper.

A multifaceted Khandu
Dear Editor,
I thought the Beautiful Mountains are great,
I thought the clouds are beauties
And
The winds as friends of life.
But –oh! What a shock!
Oh! What a sorrow!
My heart beat stops to think about-
The monstrous mountain,
The cruel wind
The treacherous clouds.
Who has snatched our beloved leader-
A leader who was loving and caring.
A leader who was kind and generous.
A leader who was so friendly and frank.
It was not a Pawanhans crash but was like a tsunami storm which devastated every one’s heart and wiped out smiles from every one’s face. The news of death of Dorjee Khandu has brought a rain of tears from the eyes of Arunachalees. Though the cruel nature or the irresponsible chopper has snatched our beloved leader’s life, Dorjee Khandu shall continue to dwell in sweet memory of hundreds & thousands of people of Arunachalees forever and ever in times to come.
In this hour of grief all the people of Arunachal Pradesh share this unbearable sadness with the family of late Dorjee Khanduji. In him we have lost a great leader, and the history will remember him as the great son of Arunachal Pradesh. May his soul unite with god in heaven with a boundless happiness be with him unaccomplished during worldly life.

Government land and private owners
Dear Editor,
Lately, I have seen so many land excavations in the capital complex and that too is mostly in plots which once belonged to the Arunachal Govt. and now a private property. So many private buildings are coming up in such Govt. plots which are converted to legal private plot. We can see many such old Govt. quarters adjacent to a big private building and most to these quarters are used as store rooms or guest rooms. My question here is: what happened to the orders issued by the Deputy Commissioner regarding illegal land excavation?
Even if the excavation is legal, is there any inspection team from the govt. side to survey the land which is being excavated?
How come the govt is allowing the legal transformation of a govt. land into a private land?
Is there any Anna Hazare in Arunachal, who can fight against such corruption?

Learn from Uttar Pradesh
Dear Editor,
The recent events taking place in Uttar Pradesh over land acquisition by the state government for highway project which has sparked widespread protest in Agra and other parts in UP that has left many dead and injured. Offices, houses, vehicles gutted down. It is a prime example from which our state government and the new CM should learn lessons that they cannot annex people from their forefathers land without their consensus and proper compensation as it could result in chaos.
So my request is as many dams, highway projects are coming in Arunachal they should be intelligent and not repeat the mistakes made by the Mayawati govt.
